24/03 LIFE DRAWING

On Friday we attended a life drawing session as we didn't get a chance to develoup working with life drawing during time spent on portfolio work, so this was a chance to develoup drawing skills ready for the lead up to university.

During the session with Jane, we worked with a variety of different media and experimental drawing styles, such as drawing without looking at the page, drawing with your non-dominant hand, continuous-line drawing, etc.

We also drew from the model standing in a range of poses as well as even moving around the room to capture interesting results.

Here are some of my strongest results from the session and what I though about them...

These drawings were a series produced from different model poses, drawing continuous-line without looking at the paper. I really like how well these results turned out as it really allowed me to free up my hand and create some flowing, dynamic drawings that really push the boundaries.

These drawings were all produced using a continuous line method and I used a range of media inc. fineliners and oil pastels, layering them over each other to produce a sort of series together. Again, I like how free flowing my lines are within the continuous line drawing approach. I also think it's really interesting to see the figures overlap and produce a feeling of momentum and a dynamic look, where we see the model move from pose to pose. I also started to scribble-in/shade with the fineliner pen to interpret areas of contrast and I think this worked well to provide variety and depth.

This series of drawings was actually produced as the model was moving around the room. I actually found this quite difficult to do as at no point was the model actually stationary, and I had to capture really fast figure drawings, which should actually really help with designing and my fashion illustration.

Although it's hard to really tell what each figure is a drawing of and how the model is standing, to me these drawings are representations of the human figure and I like how spontaneous yet flowing the lines are in a dynamic rhythm across the page.

This drawing was one where we had quite a bit longer to produce the outcome. Again, this was done in a fineliner pen using continuous line motions.

I think proportions and shapes in this drawing are quite accurate and well done. Scribble shading, again, helps to bring in a more sense of depth and dimension, highlighting darker and lighter areas. The pen motions are quite scribbly ans free flowing which I really like as everything feels rhythmic rather than forced.
