In recent patterncutting lesson we having been looking at combining ideas from our initial sampling stages in order to produce final design ideas for an architecture inspired dress, closely drawing upon the college architecture.
I’ve created some experiments using pin tucks and godets in order to recreate certain structures and textures I’ve seen around the college site.
I loved the layering and illusion of depth/dimension created by the pin tucks.
For the godets, I had a go at experimenting with different weights of interfacing to produce different results. - the heavyweight interfacing created a really interesting and structured shape that resembles elements of architecture I’ve seen.
In my final design I’ve looked at combining these ideas to create an overall dress. I want to create my garment using blacks and whites for heavy contrasts and illusions of structure/depth. I may also play around with different fabrics to challenge my skills - e.g. I want to incooperate silver to recreate metallic textures - could I use something like a nylon or silk?!
I’m really excited to progress with this design idea, which includes pleats, godets and pin tucks.
