MAKING APRONS FOR THE COLLEGE IN STRETCH LESSONS

Over the last few lessons of stretch with Lareen, we have been looking at sewing aprons for the college.

The process started from the composing of the pattern, the cutting-out of fabric, overlocking and interfacing; sewing and pressing. As a class, we separated off into different groups, as in a factory, in order to get all the tasks completed and the aprons made.

We started by composing the patterns given with the initial instructions

We then needed to cut these pieces out in fabric and so we worked together as a class in order to create the most efficient layplan that would create the least amount of fabric waste possible. - Looking at layplans was actually something I found quite useful as I definitely feel that I could be more efficient with fabric in my own projects.

Creating sets of all the pattern pieces cut out and ready for production!

This project was definitely something I really enjoyed and I feel it has also massively helped strengthen and improve my skills.

I particularly found this has helped me improve my sewing skills as sewing the same thing over and over meant I got more and more comfortable with what I was doing and so I was able to work through things quite quickly and efficiently by the end! I normally tend to work quite slowly when it comes to sewing, however this has really taught me to be more confident in my skills and what I'm doing.
