With last weeks hand-in of the Pattern Crazy Trouser Suit project also came the presentation unit of our assignment whereby we had to publically present out garments... and our group chose to do this through the form of a YouTube video/fashion film!
In todays blog post I wanted to discuss a little bit about how we made the film as well as how I think it went overall.
The original concept for our pattern crazy video was highly inspired by Chaka Khan's 'Like Sugar' music video, where we felt the actors danced in these really pattern-like rhythms and repetitions that could really relate back to our theme and this idea of a 'repeat pattern'.
The background and location of the video resembled a garage like set-up which had this real grunge feel about it, featuring things like graffiti and skateboards in the background and so this was something we looked to recreate in our video, which we shot in an abandoned car park, bringing along props such as skateboards, as well as embracing things like the graffiti that had been left there.
To make the video, we organised two days where we all met at the car park to first create the shots that would later be clipped and edited together.
We all wore and danced in our own garments, alternating between the person that was filming. I would say that the location actually ended-up being a large inspiration for the movements/choreography that we ended up doing, for example there were these two downward slopes which faced oppresite each other and we looked to utelize these to create exciting effects..
.. We used the diagonal slopes/walls to march in oppersite directions as well as to duck down and pop up one at a time, creating a pattern like feel which embraces all our different garments.
We also created these much more close-up shots of garments individually, to capture detailed elements, whilst the wearer would dance to the music tempo.
As well as this, we shot more clips in small groups.
The overall video was really good fun to make, but also tested our team work skills, giving us a chance to work with other students than who we might normally.. I think the overall video outcome is a good display of our cooperation in working together as a team to create a successful outcome, which shows good promise for the fashion show!
I think the video worked really well with our chosen music, of which also links really well back to the pattern crazy, structure theme. The video flows nicely between group shots and individual shots to gage a real variety and keep the watcher intrigued.
Assigned editors of our video also did a great job with matching up the clips and creating the pattern like repeats of dance and movements that we wanted.
