PORTFOLIO PROGRESS

In recent sessions I have been curating work towards my portfolio deadline...

Wrapping Paper Page:

For this page I really wanted to do something with my wrapping paper work/projects as I was really pleased with the outcomes of these.

I decided to enlarge the prints to cut-out and collage design ideas with them, looking to create silhouettes and shapes drawing upon the insects theme that I chose. I really love the funky shapes of the garments and I feel they look really effective and striking in the prints.

To complete the page, I laid-out my final pattern designs alongside some of the initial experiments that helped me come to these.

Bodice Project Page:

For my bodice page I knew that I wanted to enlarge my intial collage inspired by artist Paul Klee in order to have it in the background to show direct links and inspiration.

I combined the pattern, layplans, design ideas and final garment image all together to curate the page. I really wanted to have the pattern in there as it was quite a complex one to make so was important for me to show off my pattern cutting skills!

I actually traced my design ideas onto tracing paper in fine liner pen so that I could place it over the collage and you could see through it.

I also felt it looked effective to include the actual tech pack fashion flat drawing page in there to show my understating of the importance of the tech pack and planning.

Starting to develop...

Personal Project Page

This week I began working on my personal project page inspired by the movie ' Tangled' which I am really excited about. This links in well to my decision to study costume as well as showing my individualality of interests within that area. What I did was that I created tutu design ideas inspired by the movie as I have a real interest in dance wear and would like to persue tutu making. I have made my own moodboard up from the movie, looking at specific symbols and motifs that I could include in my ideas.

What I then did was a character analysis of Rapunzel so that I could develop the ideas foward into my own personal interpretation of a tutu costume for the character of Rapunzel.

Illustration Pages:

Lastly, I have been working on curating some free-motion embroidered illustartations for my portfolio.

I've really enjoyed collaging together different fashion images from magazines to create a unique composition I could work from.

My hopes for this page are to create varying illustrations with embroidery, for example some where a bit of the image is ripped away, some where all of the image is ripped away and one in between.

I'm really pleased with how my portfolio is looking so far and can't wait to keep developing work and pages to complete the work ready for applications and interviews!!
