Last Saturday 3rd September we went up to London for day 1 of the top model fitting sessions in preparation for the catwalk modelling event on the 17th September.
Upon arrival at the venue I was really excited to see all the outfits of this years designers and to get the models ready for the runway!
During the fitting session we assisted models as part of the dressing team to help them get changed and find the outfit that best fits them. This sometimes meant swapping around outfits to find create the best possible fit, but it also meant noting down where certain alterations needed to be made or perhaps where something needed to be pinned in or shortened for the day to ensure the model can comfortably and confidently walk the runway.
Once all the models were best fitted in the garments, we were next required to photograph them so that we know the order they need to be on the runway and who we will be dressing. This way things should run much smoother on the day.
There was also one more collection that we had to account for as the designer unfortunately couldn't make the fitting day and so, to combat this, we went through the order of models and took bust, hip and waist measurements so that we could then assign the best fitting garments to each individual model.
Once all fittings were complete, alterations noted and photos taken, everything was ready and in place for the day.
It was a brilliant experience to work more closely as a team with my college group and to gain professional industry experience. I feel the top model events really help me to grow my confidence as an individual as well as actually getting me really excited about the community and industry of fashion out there! I'm really looking forward to show day to work in the fast-paced, exciting environment and can't wait to see the show come together!!
