USING DISSOLVABLE FABRIC TO MAKE NEW FABRIC OUT OF SCRAPS

Louise Love

In textiles lessons we have been looking at how to use dissolvable fabric to create new, sustainable textiles. I had a go at using the technique to create new fabric out of old scraps of fabric, ribbon, yarn, etc. that would ordinarily go to waste.

The way I did this was by using an embroidery ring and arranging my scraps between two layers of the dissolvable fabric. I then chose a pink thread to match my colour themes and used my free motion embroidery foot to stitch over these layers, encasing and holding the fabrics together in place.

The last step was to put the fabric under water and dissolve it away so that I was left with a new piece of fabric made of scraps!

I really enjoyed using this technique and found it was a great a way to recycle old fabrics! The final result worked really well and I love the combination of different colours and patterns together.
