In computer aided design we have been looking at creating our final wrapping paper design using adobe illustrator. To do this, I first scanned my hand painted design into adobe illustrator in order to create repeats using the swatch tool to select my image. From there I was able to play around with format and design.
I love the bold and playful colours in my initial design created with illustrator, however you could still see lines/boxes around each section of repeat and so in order to develoup this, I began mirroring the images on my iphone in order to create a much more seamless and flowing repeat pattern.
My initial by-hand butterfly design was created in watercolour, using my visual research from my first sketchbook as a starting point and taking inspiration from the bold colours and prints of our client Liberty's.
Overall, I am really pleased with how the pattern has turned out- I feel that the style fits Liberty's in its fun and playful colour scheme, as well as relating back to my visual research and theme of insects. I feel the colours work really well together and the repeats create interesting dimensions and a sense of rhythm. I also feel that the vibrant choice of colours and playful print really encapsulates the style and brand image of Liberty London.
