WHAT I WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO DIGITALLY

Updated: Nov 11, 2021

Hey guys,

I had my first introductory lesson of Photoshop today where we learned the very basics of the program and I'm feeling really excited about the possibilities computer aided design gives me within my fashion course and can't wait to learn more! I personally love the idea of being able to use digital platforms to aid my fashion design and textiles work as it’s not only a much more modern and up-to-date way of doing things but it can also hugely speed up the process of fashion design as well as creating with much more precision and accuracy. Creating on platforms such as Photoshop also make it easier to duplicate and manipulate designs rather than having to re-sketch them out every time.

I like the idea of being able to create digital fashion flats/designs for garments in order to not only speed up the process, but also create a much more professional outcome.

Studying a year or A level media I already have a really basic background knowledge of Photoshop and so I’m aware of just how great a tool it can be in editing and manipulating photos to create unique, different outcomes. I’m definitely excited to learn more about Photoshop and especially how to use it to aid my fashion work/ create fashion related content.

I’m also really looking forward to learning how to use different digital platforms e.g for creating things like mood boards - it will be interesting to look at how I can arrange photos and inspirations in a digital environment as this gives me a lot more freedom with the layout in order to create a much more interesting outcome. Again, not to mention how much faster and easier it can be.

I think today - being able to create works digitally and learning how to use these popular digital platforms is a great skill to have and could really stand me out in interviews. Meeting the needs of today's society and fast-paced consumer habits is really important and obviously with the emergence of the internet people have much higher expectations for a product to be created quickly and of a high quality.

I’m also really interested in fashion media e.g. within magazines and on social media platforms - being able to create those kinds of posts and magazine layouts would be something I’m be really passionate and excited about learning- being able to edit and manipulate images can add so much more to them and create something that will catch a consumer’s eye.

I'm definitely excited to look in more detail about how to use these digital platforms to aid my fashion work and I can’t wait to see how my skills and designs can grow using a digital-based platform!
